The Red Lion - history

A late 19th century public house on Warstone Lane in Hockley (now part of the Jewellery Quarter).

The pub had late 20th century internal remodelling.

Rendered and painted red brick with painted stone dressings.

There was a public house on this site around 1855 (on the Piggot-Smith map), although the present building might have been built by 1887 (on the Ordnance Survey map).

This suggests a rebuilding or remodelling between the two dates.

The pub became a Grade II listed building in 2004.

The Red Lion is a traditional pub, rich in both local heritage and modern art.

It was regional runners up in the Observer Food Awards 2013 - 2017 for best Sunday Lunch.

At the bar, The Red Lion has a growing range of premium and European lagers as well as local draft ales.

Other features include the stylish and spacious clubroom with TV and a dedicated space with it's own bar, menu and free WiFi.

At the back is a sheltered beer garden, Sky Sports and Army Lion stencils.

There is seven large screens across the pub dedicated to nothing but sport.
